Theme Week 12

Shifty, the color of almonds. Almond-shaped too.  Driving, preoccupied.  Almost in a huff, having to deal with these beings called humans.

Blinking fast, blinking slow, moving up and down, side to side.  Too mobile for me to catch their color.

Rarely blinking, lazily half open, not caring even to close even when they burn.  Sadly identical to so many others.

Sparkling, shining, glowing for the pair beside them, admiring, proud, with a touch of hesitance as they slide to the corners.

Burning, raving for the things said by their neighbors.  Angry, too soon to be sad.  Wanting and wishing to shoot darts at the ones that caused them pain.

Rarely seen, disguised behind tinted glass.  Few get to see them - for to see them is to know, and to know is to love and to hate.  Fearful and tinged with bitter for the things they’ve seen.  Tinged with anger for the things they’ve done, tinged with regret for the things they haven’t.

  2. Your dumb teacher! Once I realized I had a puzzle in front of me, I dropped about 75 IQ points from a starting point already only in the high double digits. I read it and read it, muttering and cursing, trying to fit in different possibilities, and finally, finally went to my backstop.

""Hey, listen to this! What is it: "Shifty, the color of almonds. Almond-shaped too. Driving, preoccupied. Almost in a huff, having to deal with these beings called humans.

    Blinking fast...."

    "Eyes."

    "Eyes?"

Wife (stares at husband, wondering if she made a terrible mistake March 22, 1969): "Eyes."

  3. Do you think this piece might fall into the category of extended 'poetic conceit'?

  4. Yes, I would say it fits well into 'poetic conceit.' I didn't realize how hard I made this to figure out! You made me laugh.
